E.L. Education:

This week, the students will be finishing up their poetry unit by finalizing their poetry presentation and practicing reading poems fluently in preparation for class presentation and our poetry reading for parents on Thursday. We will also end the quarter by practicing some test taking skills with poetry through close reading, annotating in the margins and going back into the text and finding text evidence.

How to Help Your Child at Home:

  • Have your child share with you the poem that your child wrote and have them explain their inspiration behind writing it.

  • Have your child read a poem aloud to you, practicing reading it fluently. Have them share with you what fluent reading sounds like.

Math:

This week in math the students continue to work on adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm. They will also work on solving multi-step word problems. They will be taking their end of the unit assessment on these skills on Friday, September 27th. So, if you know your child will be absent on that day, please let me know as soon as possible, so I can give them their test early.

How to Help Your Child at Home:

  • Help your child add and subtract larger number using the standard algorithm (the universal method that I'm sure we were all taught) especially focusing on regrouping and ungrouping numbers.

Science:

On Monday and Tuesday of this week, the students will review for their unit test on landforms and fossils. Their test will be Wednesday. Students will NOT be able to use their notes during the test

How to Help Your Child at Home:

Please help your child review by asking them questions based on their notes. Thank you for your participation!
